Course Description

This programme is designed for personnel who maybe required to raise the alarm and operate equipment such as hand-held fire extinguishers, hose-reels and fire blankets in the event of discovering a fire.


Why choose this course?

Delegates will be assessed against the learning outcomes using direct observation and oral and/or written questions as appropriate.

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a GSS Certificate, valid for 2 years.

Who is the course for?

The optimum contact time for this training is 4 hours. The contact time is based on the maximum number of delegates undertaking the programme.

Approximately 35% of the course will be classroom-based and 65% performing practical exercises.

This course can be delivered at any one of our training centres or ONSITE at the clients facility.

  • There are no prerequisites required for this course.


  • Duration
  • Training contains physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such training must be medically fit and capable of participating fully.

    Delegates must either:

    a) Possess a valid offshore medical certificate, or

    b) Possess an Operator approved medical certificate, or

    c) Complete a GSS medical screening form prior to attendance.


  • Who is it for
  • The aims and objectives of the training programme is to equip students with the knowledge and understanding of fire theory, including the basic principles of combustion and how fires spread, classifications of fire and the identification of different types of fire extinguishers. Students will learn about the importance of fire drills and how to perform them as and when required. The training programme will equip students with the skills required to operate various types of fire extinguisher, hose-reels and fire blankets to tackle various types of live fires.
