Course Description

This course covers the key safety elements required by all employees working in the energy industry. It also ensures the knowledge and understanding of these basic safety elements are maintained and current amongst the existing workforce.

This course is to re-introduce the fundamental safety elements of the oil & gas industry to existing workers, giving an

appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel. Each unit has been

designed to focus the delegates’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their

behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the oil and gas operations and the environment.

Candidates who complete this course will be awarded an OPITO Approved IMIST Certificate valid for 4 years

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must possess:

a) A valid OPITO IMIST Initial or valid OPITO IMIST Further training certificate.

Or b) A valid OPITO Vantage number And c)Have previously worked offshore*

*Learners are required to complete a declaration prior to course commencement confirming prior offshore work experience, including details of their last offshore trip, to include asset name, location and dates

To achieve the OPITO Oil & Gas Industry International Minimum Industry Safety Training (IMIST), the learner will need to complete the 9 mandatory units.

3. Understanding the risk assessment process

4. Tasks that require permit to work

5. Personal responsibility in maintaining asset integrity

6. Using manual handling techniques everyday

7. Controlling the use of hazardous substances

8. Knowledge and practices of working at height

9. Being aware of mechanical lifting activities
