Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a GSS Group STCW certificate approved by the Marshall Islands, valid for 5 years.

What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 10 hours / 1 day. Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of delegates attending.
What are the entry requirements?
The prerequisites for the training programme are; A valid STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boat.
Training activities contained within this product may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully.
As a minimum, to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises the learner is declared fit, in that they:
1. Possess an employing company approved medical certificate equivalent to an offshore medical certificate; or
2. Undergo medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by GSS.
What does the course cover?
The aim of the course is to update seafarers who are required to take charge of a survival craft or a rescue boat (other than fast rescue boats) in emergency situations. The essential education and training to meet the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency requirements set out in the following:

1. Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch.
2. Operate a survival craft engine.
3. Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship.
4. Use locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus and pyrotechnics.
5. Apply first aid to survivors.

How is the course assessed?
Learners will be assessed against the theory outcomes through a written test.
Learners will be assessed against the practical criteria, through observation of them completing a series of manoeuvres and rescue exercises.
