Course Description
This 3-day LEEA Foundation Certificate (FOU) is the ideal entry point for those starting a career in the lifting inspections industry. This course builds essential knowledge of lifting equipment inspection, safety principles, and regulations.
This course is for non-members of LEEA. LEEA Members should contact our sales team (booking@gss-training.com) for membership discounts.
What certificate will i receive?
Learners who successfully complete the course and assessment will receive a LEEA-Accredited Foundation Certificate, issued by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) through GSS Training.

What are the entry requirements?
- No previous experience or qualifications required
- You must be over 16 years old.
- You must be employed by a LEEA member or registered with us as an Individual Trainee
This course is a pre-requisite for LEEA Diploma's and does not qualify you to do inspection or examination of lifting equipment.
What does the course cover?
Learners will be expected to demonstrate understanding of:
- Key legislation, standards, and terminology used in the lifting industry
- Roles and responsibilities of personnel in lifting operations
- Safe use and identification of lifting accessories and machines
- Fundamental lifting principles — load weight, centre of gravity, mechanical advantage
- Types of lifting equipment and their applicationsInspection and maintenance awareness
- Recording, tagging, and traceability of lifting equipment
- Hazard identification and control measures in lifting operations
- Communication methods (hand signals, radios, tag lines)
- Basic risk assessment and lift planning awareness
Practical Application Learners will take part in interactive exercises and case studies simulating real-life lifting operations, applying safety principles and correct equipment identification.
How is the course assessed?
Following completion of the 3-day training course, LEEA will issue Learners with access to their Learning Management System Portal, and Learners will complete a 90-minute examination. This can be completed anytime within 30 days of the course ending.
