LEEA Accredited - Offshore Crane Operator Stage 3 Assessment / Reassessment

Course Description

This course is intended for personnel who wish to become LEEA Accredited Stage 3 offshore crane operators or renew their existing Stage 3 Assessment qualifications.

What certificate will i receive?

LEEA Accredited Offshore Crane Operator Stage 3 Assessment or Reassessment Certificate that is valid for two years.


What is the duration of the course?

The duration of the Stage 3 OCO Assessment will depend on the nature of the crane lifting operations.

What are the entry requirements?

Offshore Crane Operator Stage 3 Assessment

Candidates for Stage 3 OCO assessment require [ A and C] or [ B and C ] – see details below:

(a) A valid LEEA Accredited OCO Stage 2 Training certificate; or (b) valid OCO Stage 2 or a Stage 3 industry-recognised Offshore Crane Operator competence certificate; and (c) A letter from their employer confirming the candidates holds the necessary knowledge and skills at Stage 2, to enable them undertake assessment.

Crane Type

The assessment must be undertaken on an offshore crane. Mobile / Crawler cranes will not be accepted.

Physical and stressful demands of training

Training activities contained within this Product may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully. As a minimum, to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises the learner is declared fit, in that they:

1. Possess an employing company approved medical certificate equivalent to an offshore medical certificate; or

2. Undergo medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by GSS.

What does the course cover?

This course aims to establish that the candidate has the required underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfil the role of Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator safely and effectively.

How is the course assessed?

Knowledge Assessment

The Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding of the candidate can be gleaned from a combination of the following:

a) Professional Discussion

b) Inferred underpinning knowledge and understanding from the practical crane lifting operations, and

c) The assessor questioning the candidate at appropriate times.

Practical Assessment

The Practical Assessment requires the Assessor to observe the candidate perform the specified tasks to the required standard.
