Course Description
The target group for Banksman and Slinger Initial Training Standard is personnel wishing to become competent in the Banksman & Slinger role in the energy industry.
What certificate will i receive?
Upon successful completion of the course learners will be awarded with a OPITO Approved Certificate, valid for 2 years and 8 months.
Certificates can be verified through our website or the OPITO Vantage System and TRAIN-R App by scanning the QR code on the certificate.
What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 24 hours over 3 days.
Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no prerequisites for Banksman and Slinger Initial Training.
Medical Requirements:
Training activities contained within this product may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully.
As a minimum, to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises the learner is declared fit, in that they:
1.Possess an employing company approved medical certificate equivalent to an offshore medical certificate; or
2.Undergo medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by GSS.
What does the course cover?
The aim and objectives of Banksman and Slinger Initial Training Programme are to provide the learner with the basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined Banksman and Slinger roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities.
The Initial Training Programme allows the learner to demonstrate basic Banksman and Slinger practical skills, following instruction and demonstration by the training staff. This Training Programme aims to prepare the learners for the next stage of the progression path to becoming a competent banksman & slinger i.e. Banksman and Slinger Workplace Experience Logbook.
How is the course assessed?
Learners will be assessed against the theory outcomes through a written test.
Learners will be assessed against the practical criteria, through observation of them completing a series practical lifts.
