Course Description
This course is for learners who are required to participate and/or assist in the planning of mechanical lifting operations.
N.B This course is not for those who are looking for training in the planning of lifting operations with cranes.
What certificate will i receive?
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a OPITO Approved Certificate, with no expiry.
Certificates can be verified through our website or through the OPITO Vantage System and TRAIN-R App.
Learners will then return to the workplace and be able to plan and organise the optimum resources needed to safely plan lifting operations under the supervision of LOLER Appointed Person/LOLER Focal Point, within their workplace.
The Learner may then be nominated at any time by their employer to sit the LOLER Competent Person Competence Assessment, to complete this learning pathway.
What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 22 hours over 3 days.
Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners for OPITO Lift Planning Training Standard require one of the below:
1) A valid OPITO-approved Rigger Competence Assessment / Reassessment (Stage 3/4) Certificate; or
2) A valid OPITO-approved Banksman and Slinger Competence Assessment/Reassessment (Stage 3/4) Certificate; or
3) A valid OPITO-approved Drilling Rigger Competence Assessment / Reassessment Certificate.
Medical Entry Requirements
Training and/or assessment activities may include potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully, and all Learners will be required to complete a medical screening form.
What does the course cover?
This Product provides the learner with theoretical and practical skills to plan and organise the optimum resources needed to safely plan lifting operations under the supervision of LOLER Appointed Person/LOLER Focal Point, within their workplace.
It includes methods and techniques which will instruct the learner in the process and procedures which are essential in achieving competence in lifting operations planning and management of hazards.
The learner will develop skills to be able to identify all the hazards associated with a planned lifting operation and produce a lifting plan which will eliminate as many of these hazards as possible.
Learners who successfully complete this training, may be nominated by their employer to sit the 9063 OPITO LOLER Competent Person Competence Assessment.
How is the course assessed?
Learners will be assessed against the theory outcomes through a 60-minute, professional discussion.
Learners will be assessed against the practical criteria, by producing a lift plan for an initial lifting operation scenario which must be provided by the approved Centre. The lift plan is based on a lifting operation which includes the following:
1. A load with an offset centre of gravity
2. A load which requires a minimum of two leg bridle/slings
3. A load with anchor/attachment points or slinging arrangements that differ in height from each other.
