Course Description
This course is designed to meet the initial training and assessment requirements for Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains in the oil and gas industry.
What certificate will i receive?
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a OPITO Approved Certificate, valid for 2 years.
Certificates can be verified through our website or through the OPITO Vantage System and TRAIN-R App.
What is the duration of the course?
The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 28 hours over 4 consecutive days.
Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.
What are the entry requirements?
Attendance on this programme is open to delegates who are in possession of valid Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training certificate (BOSIET), Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS), TBOSIET (Tropical BOSIET), Further Offshore Emergency Response Training (FOET), Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CAEBS) or TFOET (Tropical FOET).
Training/assessment activities contained within this course may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully.
Learners must either:
1. Possess a valid offshore medical certificate; or
2. Possess an Operator approved medical certificate;
And
3. Complete a GSS medical screening form prior to attendance.
What does the course cover?
The aim of the Initial Training Programme is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to perform the role of an Offshore Lifeboat Coxswain effectively. The objectives are:
1. Learners to fully understand the roles and responsibilities of the Offshore Lifeboat Coxswain
2. Learners to understand the working mechanisms of the TEMPSC, and how to safely launch and maneuver the TEMPSC to a safe area.
3. Learners to ensure that the safety of the passengers is maintained throughout.
How is the course assessed?
Learners will be given a written examination which will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.
Learners' practical performance will be evaluated by direct observation during a safe lifting operation.
