This training programme is designed for individuals who are not health- care providers or professional rescu- ers who desire, or are occupationally required, to be trained and certified in adult first aid and/or CPR AED for the adult, child, or infant.

The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 6 hours. Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of delegates attending.

This training programme covers six main segments. They are:

2. Adult CPR AED

3. Adult First Aid

4. Child CPR AED

5. Infant CPR AED

Course Summary

The goal of the Adult First Aid and CPR AED training programme is for participants to gain or improve knowledge and skill proficiency in adult first aid and CPR AED for the adult, child, and infant.

The learning objectives of the training programme are:

CPR AED Objectives

1. Recognize the main elements to the procedure for adult and pediatric CPR AED.

2. Recognize the elements of high-quality adult and pediatric CPR and their importance on survival from cardiac arrest.

3. Identify the links in the adult and pediatric chains of survival.

4. Recognize when high-quality CPR is required.

5. Describe how to perform high-quality adult and pediatric CPR.

6. Describe how to provide treatment for a choking adult and child or infant.

7. Correctly demonstrate the removal of contaminated personal protective equipment.

8. Correctly demonstrate the adult and pediatric CPR procedure.

9. Correctly demonstrate how to provide effective rescue breaths using a CPR mask.

10. Correctly perform high-quality adult and pediatric CPR.

11. Correctly demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult and child.

12. Correctly demonstrate how to provide treatment for a choking infant.

Adult First Aid Objectives

1. Summarize the basic legal concepts that apply to providing first aid and CPR AED.

2. Recognize the first aid provider’s role, responsibilities, and priorities.

3. Recognize the main elements to the procedure for first aid and CPR AED.

4. Explain the Adult First Aid Procedure.

5. Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for injury, medical, and environmental emergencies.

6. Recognize the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and a safety oriented home and workplace culture.

7. Correctly demonstrate the removal of contaminated personal protective equipment.

8. Correctly demonstrate the Adult First Aid Procedure.

9. Correctly demonstrate how to control severe external bleeding.

10. Correctly demonstrate how to use an epinephrine autoinjector.

How is the course assessed?

Delegates will be required to under- take the following assessments:

1. Adult – One-Provider CPR AED

2. Child – One-Provider CPR AED

3. Infant – One-Provider CPR

4. Adult First Aid – Severe, Life-Threatening External Bleeding

5. Adult First Aid – Severe Allergic Reaction

Delegates will need to demonstrate actions that need to be taken based on the scenarios provided under each of the performance assessment items mentioned above.

If required by an employer, regulatory or occupational licensing agency, delegates will also need to take an ‘open-book’ exam.
