The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 5 hours. Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of delegates attending.

What does the course cover?

This training programme covers seven main segments:

1. Introduction

2. Adult BLS

3. Child BLS

4. Infant BLS 5. Choking

6. Required knowledge and skill assessment

7. Conclusion

Course Summary

The purpose of this BLS training program is for participants to gain or improve knowledge and skill profi- ciency in High Quality CPR skills and teamwork for the adult, child, and infant.

The learning objectives of the train- ing programme are:

1. Recognize the elements of high-quality CPR for an adult, child, and infant, and their importance on survival from cardiac arrest.

2. Identify the links in the chains of survival for inside and outside the hospital.

3. Recognize how to apply the BLS procedures in the chains of survival.

4. Recognize when high-quality CPR

is required.

5. Correctly demonstrate how to pro- vide effective rescue breaths using a CPR mask and bag-mask device.

6. Identify the steps to correctly use an AED.

7. Correctly demonstrate how to use an AED.

8. Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, a child, and an infant.

9. Recognize the value of team roles during high-performance resuscita- tion.

10. Correctly demonstrate how to perform CPR with two or more BLS Providers on an adult, child, or infant.

11. Recognize and provide treatment for a choking adult, child, or infant

How is the course assessed?

Delegates will be required to under- take the following:

1) Performance assessment:

Delegates will need to demonstrate actions that need to be taken based on scenarios provided as part of Adult and Infant BLS assessments.

2) Knowledge assessment:

Delegates will need to take an ‘Open book’ online exam with 21 questions, and obtain a passing score of 74% or better
