Course Description

This training programme is designed for adult first aid and adult and child CPR AED providers and basic life support (BLS) trained healthcare providers, professional rescuers, or public safety providers working a wide variety of occupational settings who desire or are required to be certified in the emergency use of medical oxygen.

Delegates who successfully complete the training course will be issued HSI certificate valid for 2 years.

What is the duration of the course?

The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 3 hours. Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of delegates attending.

What are the entry requirements?

Delegates are required to hold current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

This training programme covers four main segments:

1. Introduction

2. EUMO skill

3. Performance assessment

4. Conclusion

Course Summary

The purpose of this training programme is for participants to gain or improve the skills and confidence necessary to give medical oxygen in an emergency to a person with oxygen deficiency and during resuscitation.

The learning objectives of this train- ing programme are:

1. Correctly demonstrate how to use a pulse oximeter to assess for hypox- ia and to monitor oxygen saturation.

2. Correctly demonstrate how to give medical oxygen in an emergency to an adult using a simple face mask.

3. Correctly demonstrate how to give medical oxygen in an emergency to an adult using a non-rebreather mask.

4. Correctly demonstrate how to give medical oxygen in an emergency to an adult/child using a CPR mask.

5. Correctly demonstrate how to give medical oxygen in an emergency to an adult/child and infant using a bag-mask device (BLS providers only).

How is the course assessed?

Delegates will be required to undertake the following assessments:

1. First Aid/CPR AED Provider

2. BLS Provider

Delegates will need to demonstrate actions that need to be taken based on the scenarios provided under each of the performance assess- ment items mentioned above.

If required by an employer, regulatory or occupational licensing agency, delegates will also need to take an ‘open-book’ exam.
